Since I began my running journey a couple of years ago, my daughter Ali was one of my partners. She would bike in front of me while I ran. She was 8 years old at the time and she is now 10 years old. We always do our regular routes at Town Lake Trails (Lady Bird Lake). It varies from 3 loop mile to 8 miles. There are a couple of inclines here and there. As I'm running behind her..sometimes when we would get to the incline I'd hear her lil voice "push me".. so there I am pushing her up the incline lol. Talk about a double work out! We've walked the trail before together. Every weekend the Town Lake Animal Shelter comes out for a few hours and anyone can sign up to walk the cute dogs. Being the animal lover Ali is, she loves walking the dogs:p
I asked Ali if she was ready to run w/mommy. Her reply "Not really". So I didn't push it. Then one day she told me she was ready! So we ran 3 miles very slow, almost fast walking. She did excellent but I know that she was very tired...she was quite proud of herself but very tired.
I decided I wanted to train her to do a 5k. (3.1 miles) THEN I found this program online that does just that! Girls on the Run.
So I signed up Ali for the 12 week training course for her 1st 5k ever. This began 11 weeks ago. This week is her very last week and on Sunday 4/25/10 my 10 year old Ali will be completing her first 5k. She has met about a dozen new friends and is excited about doing the 5k. She asked me to run w/her so I am totally honored to do this. She's always the one waiting for me at the finish line at my races. I had hoped to do the same but since she asked me to run w/her, that's even more special. Her daddy will be waiting at the finish line for her :)
After all she is DADDY's GIRL.
Please read more info at the website below. This program is all over USA, not just Texas.
