The one that's making me cry every time is "You Can't See the Light"....."Cruel" is a powerful song, too. I envision that one being the song they get letters about..."your song gave me the courage to leave", that kind of thing. All of their songs seem to touch someone in one way or another, and sometimes in a very profound way. Why we love 'em. Read Henry's interview that I posted on the press thread. They write from the heart, and you can feel it.......The only thing I miss off this album, minor thing, but there's no Spanish phrasing this time. Just one place Henry says "echele". I always thought it was cool the way they could make the Spanish rhyme with everything else. But, like I said, "minor".....I LOVE the whole album!!!

It might be spelled "echale" - Depending on how it's used I think - I'm gonna take a stab at this because of how it's used. But I've read somewhere that it means to "blame" Anyway, Where's STR, Ronnie or ODB (ASF) - they would be able to clarify. But growing up North Side - vatos used this like - like "hurry up" or "give it all you got". Something like that. It's Slang. Similiar to "ORALE". :cool:

Cree - I just listened to "Guero in the Barrio". It's hysterical!

It is funny, but I've seen the not so illusive gueros over in Polk County here in Florida. And I thought it was pronounced Guero with a hard 'G', but it's pronounced juero like "where" is the first syllable. (at least I think I'm right on that pronounciation). :cool:

It might be spelled "echale" - Depending on how it's used I think - I'm gonna take a stab at this because of how it's used. But I've read somewhere that it means to "blame" Anyway, Where's STR, Ronnie or ODB (ASF) - they would be able to clarify. But growing up North Side - vatos used this like - like "hurry up" or "give it all you got". Something like that. It's Slang. Similiar to "ORALE". :cool:

Ronnie says (I called him at the hospital and asked him real quick) they use it like "OMG!". . lol

I've not heard "echale", cuz you are right, en el barrio de McAllen it does mean something VERY different.

Are you sure it was not "echame"?

Cuz Jojo does say that once at the end of Forgiven. And in my part of the world, that's slang for "hit me!" (or most precisely "throw it at me" as in echame flores - throw the flowers <at me>). Not "punch me" or "strike me" but "Pour it on!"..."Give it the gas!"..."Do it!"

Henry says it to Carlos Santana during IDWTLYL as well.......and Carlos takes off on his solo.

And "Echame tu bendiccion" - "hit me with your blessing".

I like "Give it all you've got" as well. Kudos, VS.

In my opinion... As used in LLB tunes, "Echale" is slang for "go for it!". Similar to when a singer tells the lead guitar player, "take it away" to signal a guitar solo.

"Echame" is more like a request for something to be given to the requestor. In the song, Heaven, "Echame tu bendicion" is a prayerful request for God to send His blessings. I don't hear "echame" in the song, Forgiven... I hear, "echale".

The meaning differs slightly when used as follows:

Echale limon - add some lime. A lot of the Texican people I grew up with think that some lemon or lime juice will kill germs or bacteria on food.

Echale ganas - give it your best, put forth your best effort. In the movie, Stand and Deliver, Edward James Olmos told his students... "There will be no free rides, no excuses. You already have two strikes against you: your name and your complexion. Because of those two strikes, there are some people in this world who will assume that you know less than you do. And the only thing I ask from you is ganas... desire!"

Echale Veeks - rub with Vicks VapoRub (what every Mexican grandmother told us when our kids were sick with any and every ailment) Vicks was the cure-all.

Echale gas - add gas. When I was a kid, I learned that the "E" at the left of the automobile's gasoline gage did not stand for "empty"... it stood for "echale gas" ;)

... but neither "echame" or "echale" used by themselves mean "to blame".

I have been on vacation in North Carolina in the mountains with my sista and brother (families) in a cabin this past week. I have not had a computer to write, but I did manage to have them take me to Ashville to get a cd since all of mine were preorder and mailed to home. Like all of you there are certain songs that really grabbed me instantly and hit me hard. Like Mamacita and Tasina - "You Can't See The Light" and "Cruel" are the 2 that are really emotional for me. Hearing Henry singing gives me goose bumps because the songs are truly deep and heartfelt

"Forgiven" is beyond the top.

STR thanks for your input on "Guero...". It's greatly appreciated. At least I know I didn't completely trash the spanish lyrics. :rolleyes: Now every thing makes more sense...I have a spanish dictionary here that defines Mexican slang and echale is no where to be found. :eek:

I have really enjoyed the exchange on all the lyrics. I especially appreciate the explanations of some of the Spanish expressions. (I regret more than ever that I have never studied Spanish.) I really wondered about some of the expressions I would hear the Boys use.

The song "Forgiven" made me tear up when the Boys sang it at the Saxon Pub in May. I knew it would when the album came out. It still does. I've been on the road so much since the album came out that I've had some good time to listen to each song a number of times. But I had not figured out some of the lyrics. Your posts here have helped a lot. Love this album!

And by the way, my East Texas Scotch-Irish grandmother thought Vicks was a cure for everything too.

DORA-the-explorer just put the issue to rest as well, and she agrees with you, Mark. i just listened for the first time (having no human kids of my own), a kids' CD "Dora's Dance Fiesta !" and the last track is LaBamba performed by the Boys' (cool); i didnt' know this existed, i just happened upon it and had an enormous laugh! anyway, mid-way through the song, Henry yells " 'Echale, Dora! "

the screaming was myself and "those" - michelle/chicqui/vicky/artistdebbie really fun time, and this is off-topic, but we had another "twilight-zone/post-show/late-nite/restaurant-hunt" experience -- just like we all did in l.a. last week after nissanlivesets. "those" gave me a ride to my hotel and we were hungry and couldn't find anything open, ended up at McD's drivethru, and then wouldn't ya know it, next block there was Denny's -- shining bright for all the world to see !! oh well...
