All:

We're two months into the new year, and we're behind, again, on the 2008 La Onda Street Team badge.

I'm working on my entry, and Belle has offered up a design as well.

Anyone else want to take a poke at it?

It never has been "one-da size fits all", but it's always been a blast to see the creativity come out...so, please...PLEASE! let me know if you are "in" for a design.

The Boys will be gearing up for shows before you know it, too! So, don't dawdle, mosey or drag your feet. :D Show us whatcha got.

badge? what kind of badge??

Belle
02-14-2008, 12:03 AM
Cree - La Onda street team members wear a badge to the concerts to identify themselves as they pass out swag and meet people in the audience.

Each year gets a new badge design. People are welcome to design a badge (about 4x6") with room for a person's name somewhere on it. (Kinda like a backstage pass.)

When the badge is selected from the designs, La Onda members print it out and cover it with a plastic coating to protect it throughout the year. They can be put on a rope or chain to hang around your neck, or attached to a collar with a clip.

If you want any more detail, you'd need to ask Mark. He seems to be ramrod of this department. :D

And, if I've gotten something wrong, I'm sure someone can correct the error for me.

Hey Mark... just a suggestion. What about the picture with Monica and Matt's tattoos that was taken when we saw P&J at Carlos & Charlie's. When you suggested it way back then I thought it was a really cute idea.

Badge pics so you get an idea, Cree, and anyone else....
You can sort of see Laurie's in this picture...
http://i25.tinypic.com/15piqe1.jpg
And this gives a good close-up of the lanyards Mark had made for us a couple years ago
http://i30.tinypic.com/s1j0ae.jpg
I thought I had more, but I don't. Margie has some good upclose pics, and Mark, of course. Everyone kind of did their own thing last year...Kel always makes ours for us.

Mark, I would like to see Pat's drawing of the Boys that she put on her magnets this year. It's awesome! Chiqui, if you're listening, post it up here again.....

I saw the topic and thought YAY!! it's ready for download. .especially because I need to make badges for our march shows and for Dakota Onda for their ND show, April 5. . .

We've liked using the Onda nacional badges, although we've made our own OBTB ones before> our designer is RUTH, although she changed her name here but it used to be Fiestas:

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s265/EEVLWYS/ONDABYTHEBAYBADGE.jpg

The other side had a pic of the boys in front of the Golden Gate bridge, although I don't have a a pic of that here at work.

Would like to see some of the new updated designs, pics :)

I have a request. Does anyone have a large, clear shot of the La Onda logo? If so, could you post it here, please? I saw Tasina's, but it's a bit small. (rats!)

I need to tweak my entry.

Thanks, guys! :D

I did a badge of a drawing my daughter did, last year.
But what i do-- is on the BACK, I have it BLANK (well, there is a header of where the show is- i.e. Tampa Blues Fest April 12, 2008)
and then I Write The Set List Down..and I have it!! I also keep a small Sharpie hooked on to the lanyard just for that!!!! I get SO into the show, I forget what they played, when they played it....and this helps! It also keeps my pictures in order- for later. :o)

Cree--- can't believe you don't know what a Badge is!! LOL
Will have to see if I can "dig" mine up from somewhere......Found it!!!http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/4749/annimatedstreetcrew2007yb6.th.jpg (http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=annimatedstreetcrew2007yb6.jpg)

Did one for Hubby too--- from an "old" LLB poster....

Sister Tasina,

Ready or not, you'll have an 08 badge design for download. That's my promise to you.

Honestly, ramrod or not, I was going to dawdle mine so that someone else could have the honor (some of you here may not know that I printed 100% of the 04, and probably printed shipped and mailed about 60% of the 2005 badges (131 of them for sure, cuz I've got the art for the printing), and a good number of the 06 in two different designs).

While it was a labor of love, the smell of sizzling plastic going thru the laminator got a little tedious. And that's another reason we had so many badges during 07 - we all just wanted some room to move and groove on our own.

But since I acquired a most remarkably singular piece of memorabilia, I think that my 08 badge might have great potential. Actually, either of the three pieces of memorabilia that I have would work. And all of mine would wait for 09 if that's the way it worked out.

But I must say, I find the caricatures badge to not only be cute, but very, very clever! :-)

Anyway, please do remember that it is not one-da size fits all. We can have as many badges as anyone wants to make. The 05 was singular, cuz EVERYWHERE the boys went, there it was - and they noticed. (And it still ties to the backstage pass art on those tyvek passes). It tied familia together at a time when we were ready to be tied. Unity. In 06, we had three great designs, and last year, several more!

Now, I reserve the right to do a tie-in to the album if I somehow find out about color, art, layout, whatever. I also reserve the right to NOT bend heaven and earth (and spend a small fortune) getting a run of custom stuff done. The lanyard project was very interesting, but without more support, I'm not taking that one on again. :-)

AustinStratFan

PS: I think the blank backside is a great idea for capturing the set list! TWO KUDOS TO YOU! The 05 took a different path, with a list of every website that had LLB info on it anywhere.

PPS: I will be doing a TMX Street Team badge, assuming Kevin is OK with it. We have TMX here in Austin during SXSW, so it'd be nice to show up with some solidarity. We will also, very likely, have photo art shirts. I know, I know - he complains about the work, then loads himself up with more! OH WELL!!!!!!!

My goodness! After readying Mark's latest post, and his hint of unique memorabilia, as well as looking at other people's designs, I'm suddenly afraid to post mine.

Maybe I'll just wait and see what else shows up (as I've never done this before).

Wow. That was a lot of information to digest. Well Belle, would I be able to use my adobe photo editor to create a badge so I can submit an entry too?

AustinStratFan
02-14-2008, 11:15 PM
(That's called psychin' out the competition - in reverse) :-)

Use any tools, photos, logos, whatever you want.

As Belle kinda pointed out, the traditions are:

A. LLB related. The tribal logo, the photo of the three arms, the Los Lonely Boys logotype, the Sacred album, falling musical notes in gold, heck, even Cottonfields and a railroad crossing sign have figured in the badges.

B. Strongly recommend the La Onda logo.

C. Room for the year, for the name of the person, and, if desired, "affiliation". "La Onda SoCal" - "Austintacious" - "HoustONDA" - "OBTB" - "OBTS" - etc. Tasina's comment about La Onda Nacional was when we all met on "neutral ground" in Las Vegas, so I tend to think that affiliation Nacional is more or less reserved for an LV show. But that's just me, and there are NO RULES here!

D. Colors. Well, Gigi taught me about themes a long time ago. The blue of this site is a pretty good base color. It will NOT be the base color for my entry, by the way. :) :p ;)

E. Size. 4x6 is about the biggest anyone can put thru a laminator. Smaller works. The 04 was a foldover business card, and we've had many others of business card size along the way.

If you look at Laurieboop's badge, you'll see the La Onda logo, the words 2005 Street Team, Laurieboop, and La Onda SoCal on her badge. I did a fire re-tint on the photo of the arms, then picked up the color as a photo edge and for the letters - but you can do as you please.

Backside? Whatever you want. Maria's INCREDIBLE badge was high density photographs front and back, and ate black ink like mad (as did the 05)...but boy was it INCREDIBLE!

I will be happy to make space on the server for www.llbfanclub.com for high density prints, and I'll build staging and thumbnail pages as necessary. Recommend the photos / art be PNG, cuz there's less loss. Don't worry about space. I have tons for storing.

But get busy! No dawdling! If we don't have something picked, I will send the available designs to Tasina and do what I can to help her get ready for her shows...and I'll just reserve my design for the Tejas shows we've been told are coming.

"Whoever is making the final decision..."

Remember when I said it ain't necessarily one size fits all onda? Nothing says there can only be one. And unless someone decides to take on deciding, it won't be me.

Once the designs are done, print whatever you like. Or arrange with the artist to make whatever changes are necessary for your badge, and then print. That's how mine will be done; anyone can email me what needs to go on it, and I'll modify, and post the graphic for download (or we can arrange that I'll print, laminate and ship).

Mine should be finished tweaking by the end of the week, btw.

Tasina, I like both entries so far...particularly since they aren't mine!!!!!!!

Not sure why Side Two isn't showing on my other post, but here it is again! By the way, this can also be used for Side One by reducing the size of the collage and making room for name either above the collage or below:

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/7831/badgeside2sk6.jpg

Ruth - I took your advice and tweaked it by adding your name and Onda location. I made two versions of the badge. This one has a white background (for those who don't want to go through printer ink too badly), which should show up nicely against the black LLB t-shirts.

As you can see, there's lots of room for names and such at the bottom. If anyone wants their name printed in a particular font and/or color, I'll be happy to add it for them. (I've got a hundred plus fonts to choose from.) However, I'm not set up to print and laminate like Mark is. Sorry.

Pretty, huh? Plus I can do gradient colors (going from one color to another), shadowing, beveling (these are beveled)... all kinds of cool stuff.

We need a separate thread where we can JUST post LLB FAN ARTWORK to be used for badges, swag, memorabilia, etc., etc, CAMERA-READY PROOF quality so folks can copy it and use it for whatever....kind of similar to Marks's site, he used to put up artwork (still does, I think) for our badges, posters we wanted to make, etc.........Anyway, just a thought. This would be a good place to accum all this stuff, but they would just be the artwork itself, with maybe the contributor's name, NO COMMENTS, no nothing, so you could pinch it and use it!

Thanks Ruth! And I like the idea of a place where we can snag what we need quickly and easily.

Here are the blanks for those. I found a little problem in the first design so I changed it a tad bit. The first one had "Los Lonely Boys" centered at the top but it occured to me when I printed mine that you have to hole punch the middle center which would cut out part of the letters. So I moved "Los Lonely Boys" to the left if that's alright.

If anyone figures out a good way to resize without getting everything all discombobulated, let me know. lol I just tried and it didn't go too well.

Let's remember we represent LLB and for that reason alone we need to make sure that management is in agreement with whatever we are having made to pass out as swag.
