This is a thread from the old forum posted by Michael Bloomfield, March 2, 2005. Some of the information might not be accurate for this new forum, but it is still loaded with great things.

I'm posting it because lately I've had several questions concerning this subject. Hope it helps! (I've had to change a little information to conform to this forum, and that text is in orange.)

Here I will write out an extended tutorial on how to insert pictures into signatures and avatars. I hope this benefits everyone who has this problem. I will also post pictures to give you a visual of what I am talking about. Wed Mar 02, 2005 2:59 pm

If you want the SIGNATURE picture to come from your C: Drive

First, if you need a link to a picture inside your C: drive that’s not on a website, go to this website www.imageshack.us, then click browse and go to the spot where your picture is on your computer.

http://img100.exs.cx/img100/5354/image0di.jpg

As you see, I circled the part that says “browse”. When you click that, another window will open showing items in your C: Drive. Find the picture you want and then click “open”. After that, it will return you to the original screen (See picture). Click the button “host it”. I also circled that. After that, it will bring you to another screen where the link is. Scroll down a bit until you see something that is much like this -

http://img226.exs.cx/img226/1069/circle8vv.jpg

As you see, I circled the spot where the correct link is. However, your’s will be a tad bit different depending on what you uploaded, so don't worry if it’s different. Now you have the link and you want it to be a picture in your signature. You will have to refer to the part entitled "Putting an Image in your Signature” on this page.

So you have a picture on a website, but don't know how to get the link to the picture

Go to the website that has a picture (I will refer to this website for pure reference). Now put your mouse over the picture you want, right click on that picture and go down to “properties”.

http://img239.exs.cx/img239/1530/properties1ay.jpg

After you click “properties”, a screen will come up, but there’s something you have to remember. Your mouse has to be on the picture when you right clicked for it to work correctly. Anyway, you should now have this screen up.

http://img90.exs.cx/img90/7594/url1sh.jpg

You see the part I highlighted? I want you to highlight that, too, and then copy it. Now you have the link right, so let’s put it in a signature.

Putting an Image in your Signature
Go to the main page of this forum, click the button at the top that says “profile”.

http://img152.exs.cx/img152/4817/profile6yc.jpg

A new screen will come up, scroll down to the part that says “signature”.

http://img17.exs.cx/img17/4826/signature4oy.jpg

This is a picture of my signature. As you see, my links are wrapped by img and /img tags, with these [ ] around each side. Type out the img tags like I have around your link and then, once you’re done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “submit”. Now you have your signature up, but how do you get an avatar?

How to get an Avatar

In your profile, scroll down to the part where it says “avatar preferences”.

http://img26.exs.cx/img26/4443/avatar0wm.jpg

You have to upload it from your C: Drive. Remember, it has to be 80x80 pixels, so be careful. If it’s too big, it won't work. After you uploaded from C: drive, click “submit”. Now you should have an avatar working.

How to post a picture in a post

When you’re typing a message and you got the link of a picture, you are now ready to post the picture. First paste the link into here. With your mouse, highlight the link you just pasted in here and click the “img” button above this text box. Here’s what it looks like

http://img171.exs.cx/img171/9905/imh9xs.jpg

When you post the message, the picture should work and show up in your message.

Well there it is. If you have any questions please ask, this took me along time to get all the pictures and type this up, so I really hope this benefits some one. A lot of people have this problem and I think this tutorial should benefit them.

Resizing images

You can resize images using your photo software before uploading to imageshack or other hosts. I use Paint Shop Pro, so my information might be different than what you need. But, in PSP, I click on the image I want to resize and then click on the 'image' tab at the top. A drop down menu shows up, giving me several options. One of them is 'resize'. From there, a box shows up giving me several different size choices, or the option to type in the size I want.

Just remember, sometimes resizing a photo too much makes it blurry.

If anyone else has tips or information, please share it with us.

Please note, you can only have 8 images (including emoticon faces) per post.

Cindy - to put a picture in your post, copy the URL of where you have the picture hosted online, (such as photobucket). It will look something like the URL shown below.

http://www.photobucket/yourname/yourpix/

Once you have it copied here, highlight it and then click on the icon just above the box that looks like a postcard, showing mountains and a sun. That surrounds the picture's URL with [ img] tags.

If you want the picture centered, highlight the entire line (including the img tags) and then click on the fifth icon from the left, showing centered lines. (The fourth shows left justified lines and the sixth shows right justified lines.)

Clear as mud, right? Hope this helps!

Why do I have to re-size my photos so small? I see everyone else posting normal sized photos but everytime I try to post a pic I have to resize it so it looks like a wallet size! What am I doing wrong? HELP Please!!

I believe you are posting your pics as an attachment which has to be very small. Read up on posting pics by using the tags. You will first have to resize the pic to about 640x480 and upload it to a hosting site like Imageshack or Photobucket to generate the code.

Hi senoRita -

Yes you are correct - I am trying to post them as an attachment. Thanks for your help. We (Thelma & I) will work with it and get it right!

Thanks again - and to you too Cindy for the pm. :D

Just trying some things out!

I cannot seem to get a picture to 80 x 80 pixels without becoming extremely pixellated. I have taken extremely high resolution, professional photos (which should easily be able to be scaled down) and when I change them to 80x80 it is always no good. What am I doing wrong?

Seeing if my pic and avatar will show up.

Ok, I guess I got it to work using Adobe Photoshop. Don't really understand the difference between a profile picture and an avatar. I thought the Profile Picture would be what would show up on my posts, but I guess that is an avatar.

Hey, Wing. Glad you got it sorted out. The profile picture shows up on your profile page (when people click on your name, they're directed there). The avatar shows up on the top left side of your posts. THEN, there's the signature line, where even more pictures can be added (within a character limitation).

Any jpg photo will pixilate horribly. That's why it's best to resize in Photoshop or Adobe CS3, and then save as a jpg. Frustrating, but what can ya do?

As you see, I circled the spot where the correct link is. However, your’s will be a tad bit different depending on what you uploaded, wedding dresses 2012 (http://www.ambersbridal.com/wedding-dresses/wedding-dresses-2012.html/)
vintage wedding dresses (http://www.ambersbridal.com/wedding-dresses/vintage-wedding-dresses.html/)
