What a great topic! There's a BIG difference between Fans and La Onda! I'm proud to say I'm very active in La Onda, year round which is street teaming and Promotions work. I love doing what I can to turn others onto LLB, and I LOVE mi ONDA familia!

My most recent venture is: last tuesday, I went to a 4th -5th grade class. My neice and nephew asked me to come to Sebastopol, a small town in Northern California. I did an hour long presentation which they loved, and at the end of the presentation. I thanked them for being so good and respectful. I told them (had explained the concept of Native giveaways) I wanted to present them with a gift. . and asked how many heard of Los Lonely Boys, ????? then I started singing "How far is Heaven". .and a few smiled 'yeah yeah" raising their hands. . so I said "who wants a LLB bookmark?" and they ALL excitedly accepted the bookmarks. . I explained who they were. . some of them said "my mom plays their music", etc.

What fun! Promoting every chance we can!

Tasina thanks for sharing your experience of Street Teaming. I see this topic brought back some familiar faces. Hi MC and Greeneyes! Long time no see!

Yeah if any newbies are wanting to ask about Street Teaming in their area - please let us know. REVERBNATION is gonna be our new ST home so be sure to sign up through the home page if you are interested in working hard to promote our favorite band of brothers in your city.

Bela - thanks for splitting this thread. I'm interested in seeing a good discussion on the difference between being a fan club member and being an active street teamer.

The difference is big, at least to me.

Velvet Sky, would you do us the honor of giving us some perspective on how La Onda was started and what it means to you? I think we need a little history from the people who were here in the beginning, way before my time.

It would be great to hear from all the original members of La Onda.

Sorry I'm just able to get on to this forum, trying to catch up. Thanks for asking Bela. I do think it's important for fans to know the difference. Let me get it together and I'll post soon.

PS - thanks for cleaning up this thread.

Well, I'm not even gonna take a poke at answering this one - not when those who picked our name are around to speak for themselves - just remember to get ODBs comments here somehow too!

We were nameless...cuz the 2004 Street Team badge simply calls us the Los Lonely Boys Street Team; by the 2005 badge, we were La Onda.

VS, I am correct in recalling though, that our official birthdate was the back to back shows at Stubbs, right?

Cuz it does say ONDA!

THe LLB Street Team was finally named on June 29, 2004. Stubbs is where the 1st largest gathering of La Onda took place - and we do claim it as our birthplace .... What a weekend that was.

i have a question about la onda street team. i believe i signed up for it, through reverbnation, right?

is there a place where y'all discuss meeting up? or is there a packet of info or a website that you go to?

am i supposed to put my name on a list for the badge?

ok, what about palm desert concert? how do la onda street teamers meet up there?

i didn't find the reverbnation site helpful in telling me more about this unless i was a doofus and missed the link that has all this info!

thanks!!!

I was lucky I joined the boards (at the time I think I was on the old ST too), and I met Debi in Cali (not hard if you've ever seen her license plate), Lucy from uhhh geez, forget what state she is from, somewhere back east, Laurie, ummm shoot what was her name, Karen, MariEllen and others!! :) I met them at Palm Desert. Eventually I met a bunch of both S and N California people, Rob and Martha, Tasina, I think her name is Laura? and the redhead gal shoot, I am having name blanks :( And of course I met ShaShaVick and her sisters, Kathy and Adam from TX and a bunch of other folks.
Once you've met ST'rs and board members, you'll never be alone! I can pass along my cell # (as I got Debi's and a few others)

Edited to add:
I was thinking last night, how nice it would be to have a master list of names and/or cell numbers. I bought a bunch of postcards, and I was going to send them out to ppl, but I have only Debi in Cali's address LOL and Jeanette's nieces's address.

In answer to your question. YES! You did right by joining on Reverbnation. That is currently our home site for the Street Team and any missions that Art Attack may have for us.

You do not recieve a packet or anything like that - learning how to street team is totally dependant on your efforts and passion. The best way to learn the ropes is to contact someone via this forum, the public forum or RN who is located in your city/or part of the country.

Usually (and until the new home site has a forum for us) pre-post and other La Onda gatherings are discussed here. It can get confusing sometimes because not all Fans are La Onda and not everybody gets a badge. Which are made by individuals once designs are brought forward to the group.

When you see threads that go up regarding the Concert that you are interested in - usually a roll call is started and talk about what you can do to help get the show promoted will be initiated.

Bottom line is to ask questions and someone will answer. You'll get to know who La Onda is believe me. Also, Gigi Grego is our boss (she's the owner of Art Attack Promotions) and she should be aware of any promo ideas that you have and she will give her go ahead if she thinks it's a good reflection of Los Lonely Boys.

Welcome again to the Fan Club site. Please don't forget to post often to the Public site as well as that is where NEW fans will go once they catch on to the LLB fever.

La Onda's motto "Ask Not what LLB/La Onda can do for you, but what you can do for LLB/La Onda".

You're gonna have a blast!

Well said, sis...as usual.

I thought a follow up to one comment might be appropriate.

NOT ALL FANS ARE LA ONDA.

There are fans. Fans buy albums, listen to the radio, and may have nice things to say to family and friends about LLB and give albums as gifts.

Fans remember that LLB provided the world with "Heaven", and think they've been playing since 2004 or so, but couldn't name another song without really thinking about it.

Fans attend shows local to them, and sometimes at special times, a show that requires some drive time.

Fans may be unaware of the people around them at a show - they are "disconnected" - that's not a bad thing, just an observation.

At one point, there were 14,000 fans registered at the Street Team site - but they were just fans.

And then there's ONDA.

La Familia Onda is just that - family. Does not mean we don't disagree or even fight - but that we love each other like family. We're absolutely aware of the rest of Onda around us, and we're honest and genuine and caring with each other.

La Onda bust it's ... hump ... to be together at shows and other times like On Da River. And road trips - oh my goodness. How about crossing the Atlantic Ocean? OK, extreme example. Las Vegas or LA - from Texas? Texas from the East or West Coast or North Central? San Angelo from anywhere else? :-)

La Onda is the heart and soul of the support unit for LLB. We are out in front as the eyes and ears of LLB management. We're the hands and feet for preparing a city or a venue for a show. We find ways to help spread LLB in the world as one of the creative forces. We call and write radio to get songs in circulation. We're the folks that sometimes get trusted with tasks way beyond normal - like managing a crowd of people waiting for LLB in a WalMart - or Stubbs. We're the crazies with LLB license plates, and car art, and guitar art and posters and fliers and beads and calendars and all the rest! Oh, yeah, the creators of the Street Team badge, too.

There's no formal leadership, elected officers, or any of that sort of stuff - just people who do their best to make things happen out of love and respect for the Garza family and the wonderful way that they've touched and changed our lives.

Jeanette is spot on. No rules, and dang few guidelines other than A) keep management, specifically Kevin and Gigi informed and B) in case of conflict or question, follow A.

Find a way to contribute wherever you are. If it works (or not) share it with us. Let us help you when we can.

Glad you are with us!

PS: Once you pick your badge art, just make sure it gets to me and I'll print and laminate it for you. (smile)

Jeanette and Mark, you both said it all so well!! And you made me proud to be La Onda all over again! :)

Someone in Indy was asking me (as I was passing out guitar picks) why we do it. And I just smiled and said, "We really can't help ourselves."

If you're La Onda, you know what I mean!!

hey jeanette & mark & rosebud:

thanks for your answers. that clarifies a lot. art attack is the go-to girl for ideas. if i am in doubt i will post a question.

i noticed the comradre of LLB folks at the nissan live show and i saw the banner and the monkeys. laura from no-cal was very sweet and knew a lot about what was going on. i thought, wow! what a cool group of fans, which were mostly the street-teamers. right on!!!

ok, duh. jeanette, where are the public forums?? duh.

and duh, mark, where do i pick the badge art?

my problem is time and money. i can't do a heck of a lot of shows all over the place. i WILL be at the palm desert show but am missing 2 days of teaching and a day of my chemistry class and a day of photoshop class. hopefully i will not suffer for that. i'll tell my teachers and my classes the day that school starts that i won't be there those days. it will most likely be my last concert of the year. :(

i'd love to meet up in san angelo one day as it is my hometown also. cool beans!!!

thanks for the big welcome. i look forward to spreading the LLB love. i talk about them to people whenever possible, to the point where some of them roll their eyes. lol! :D

But on the other hand, if any of them ever hear something on the radio or read something in a mag about the Boys, I'm the first one they run to to tell. They know they'd better! :p

There's a thread in "Fan Made" about badge art for 2008. The badges start to show up on page 3 of the thread.

http://llb.messageboards.musictoday.com/showthread.php?t=148&page=3&pp=10

And a direct link to the public forums...
http://forums.musictoday.com/llb/

(though you can get to them through the main page here)

Hope this helps.

hi, i'm back after some browser incompatibilities kept me from entering the fan club website. whew!

thanks, belle, for the links! so i just choose one i like and print it out and laminate it and then wear it to the palm desert show ... right?

sorry, i am not as stupids as i may seem. :D

funny thing about what mark said about the typical fan (not derogatory, we all know!) and the fact that the only LLB song they know is "heaven". i live in a small small town with hardly any radio to speak of. people out here don't get exposed to too much unless they get out there and explore and live or watch a lot of mtv or something.

anytime i mention LLB the typical response is: "huh, who? OH!! they did that song 'heaven'!" errrr, yeah.

one thing i noticed when i listened to the first LLB cd was that EVERY song on it was good. this is amazing, beings that i've bought cd's in the past for only one or two songs and never really grew to like the rest of the cd. the thing that was truly a sign of talent for me and this LLB cd was that it was ALL GOOD!!! i feel that the "forgiven" cd is hitting that mark with me again. i like "sacred", but i don't think it had the general appeal that the other 2 do. it's pretty deep. only a true loopie or lonely can appreciate it.

You could, but the picture quality won't be very good. You need to ask the person making the badge to send you a high quality PDF file (which you can open if you have Adobe Reader). Print from that. Or, they can also send you the same badge in jpeg - again in high dpi (dots per inch).

As another option...

On another thread, it sounds like Mark Walsh is collecting files on all the 2008 badges. You can contact him with your request. He'll print it out and send it to you - in exchange for choklit or some such. :D

And, to keep this on-topic (La Onda v fan club), you stated:

...only a true loopie or lonely can appreciate it.

That reminded me of the Saxon pub show. We were calling out requests from waayyy back in the past. Henry laughed and said, "Only you guys would know to ask for these songs." Now THAT'S La Onda! Only we know how to drive our Boys loopy. teehee snicker snort. :p

I think, what the Boys wrote - on new CD Forgiven, insert - says it in one line.
After thanking God and immediate family;

"To our fans, our gratitude is endless. To La Onda, our street team, you are La Familia. Es laneta. "that's the truth." "

I'm new at posting and have read some of your trivia questions, on one there was something mentioned about the boys having a song they wrote for their daughter. My daughter and I are looking for a song for her quinceanera for the father and daughter dance and I was hoping anyone can post the title of the song so we can search for it.

Hey Tweety! Welcome to the LLB forum! Good to see another new face. (Well, so to speak. )

Could the song you're looking for be Iselia? That's the only song I can think of. Jojo wrote it for his daughter, and it is a bonus track on the Walmart edition of their CD Sacred. This may very well not be what you're talking about, but it's all I got. Hehe.

Thank you for the info. I'll make sure to go buy another CD! If you guys have any suggestions on any other songs for father daughter dance I'd appreciate it!! ;)

I was thinking of "Iselia" as well but we also mentioned the song Henry wrote for his daughter "RICA" that song however has only been heard Live. No known recordings of it. It would be awesome if you and your daughter decided to go with Iselia for the Father/daughter dance. It's a beautiful song and especially heartfelt and tender. We love it....

Thank you guys for the help. I have not heard that song and am excited to listen to it. We had thought of Tim Mcgraw's song but my daughter wants something new and different. She is having the Quinceanera party do a swing dance to Friday Night because the guys are going to be in zuit suits.
