Rob and I have been following a really great group--Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express--for about a year now. They're going to be on the road in January in Colorado--Denver 1/17, then to New Mexico--1/18-Taos, 1/19-Santa Fe, 1/20 Albuquerque, and then onto Texas--1/23 Houston, 1/24 Dallas, and 1/25 Austin. We're even thinking about taking a road trip to NM to see him! And, he'll be in Santa Barbara, CA on 2/16. He's a really great songwriter, has a droll sense of humor, and a very humble guy. Check him out if you can! His website is: www.chuckprophet.com

Here's more about Chuck Prophet--he's recording with Alejandro Escovedo--the boys did a song on his tribute album....

Alejandro Escovedo Preps New Album w/Visconti, Prophet; Plans Demme Film

HARP fave Alejandro Escovedo is in Lexington, Kentucky, working on his next studio album with legendary producer Tony Visconti (of Bowie & T. Rex fame -- for an interesting HARP interview tith Visconti, click here). Escovedo's long said he was a fan of T.Rex classic Electric Warrior so the choice of producer -- previously he'd been slated to work with Glyn Johns but the two apparently failed to see eye to eye -- is intriguing as it would suggest he's going to veer in a more overtly rock 'n' roll direction this time out.

Also in the mix is another HARP fave: Chuck Prophet, who's been co-writing with Escovedo and is expected to join him for the recording sessions as well. No doubt Prophet's presence will up the rawk factor as well.

Following the recording work, at the end of this month Escovedo will be doing a short string of northeast dates (including a New Years Eve show with Patti Smith in NYC), then he'll be performing in the South and Texas during January.

One of those Jan. dates will be very special and very private: filmmaker Jonathan Demme is planning to do an Escovedo concert film at the tiny Austin eatery Las Manitas in late January. The Mexican restaurant, famed for Escovedo's intimate, annual shows there each March during South By Southwest, is to be torn down in the spring in order for a Marriott Hotel to be erected on the site.

12.28.07: Iron Horse, Northampton, MA

I saw him on Letterman. It was good, but I'm sure not the experience of a full show.

Have fun in Taos, and wherever else you are seeing him there. . Keep warm. I know you weren't expecting to be freezing down there. :p :D

Chuck and band will be on the Carson Daly show on 1/31 at 1:30 am (so actually that's 1/30 in the wee hours, if you're setting your recorder.) I really hope you will tune in to watch--this is a really talented musician and band who deserve to "make it."

And, Chuck and MX will be at the Cafe du Nord in SF on 2/8--opening is a band called Elf Farm Raffle (how the h*ll do they come up with these names?) We've listened to a few of EFR's songs--reminds me of Red Hot Chili Peppers--not exactly the same type of music as Chuck, who, in my opinion, is a brilliant songwriter. Hope to see any of you who are in the Bay area at this show!
