By now, you've heard of the terrible tragedy that struck my hometown today....It was the worst shooting massacre in Omaha's history. The shopping mall where this happened is just a couple miles from my office. It's not unusual for my co-workers to go over there for lunch, even a late lunch, but today --- no one did. My brother goes there almost every day to walk, and today he wasn't answering his phone. When I finally reached him, he could hear the relief in my voice. He said, "I almost went today, Sis, but something just told me not to". Being ex-military, he would've tried to help people if he'd been there.
Please keep all the families of the victims in your prayers....We still have friends unaccounted for, and have been spending the evening calling to check on people. And pray for the mother of the killer, Robert Hawkins. She brought his suicide note to the sheriff's station, didn't live with her son.....no one will be around to comfort her in her devastation.

Ruth - I've just seen snippets of news as I haven't turned on the TV. I am so glad your immediate family is safe, but feel badly for those who are suffering.
Prayers ascending.
I have seen the news, Ruth. Whenever a tradgedy occurs in your community, its hard to feel safe. And the mall will never be the same for any of you. I will be praying for your town to recover. Its a shame that this kind of thing goes on so often these days. I wish it would stop, as do we all. Love, Janine

Ruth~ I am glad that your family is safe and hope your friends are too. This tragedy reminds me of the Trolley Square shooting that we had in Salt Lake City. I just don't understand it :( .... sending prayers to the victims and their families.

Wow...I didn't really hear about this till just now. I caught a little snippet when I was passing through the game room downstairs where my parents are watching TV. How horrible! It breaks my heart to think of all the tragedy in this world. :( I'm glad you and your family are safe, Ruth! I'll say a prayer for your community.

It's always bad but when it hits close to home.... :(
So sorry to hear this news and I'm very happy to hear that your brother and co-workers didn't go to the mall that day.
I'll be praying for the victims, too.
