Evening, y'all. What's shakin? I hope everyone is doing well. It's almost the weekend! :D I'm taking a half day on Saturday, and me and my dad are gonna go get our Christmas tree. We always cut down our own. Very fun. We already got the snow, now we just need the decorations and it will really start to feel like Christmas!

Ok, just gotta say...this face  just cracks me up for some reason! Dunno why.

Hey, Debra and Rita - thanks for the compliment on the Bistro floor plan. It's a collaboration of Ruth and me. I put up one design, she put up another, and we put together the best of both. It turned out pretty cool! :)

Ruth, where are you, loopie? Please say something and let us know how you're doing.

I see I need to put up a 'grab-it-and-growl' item on the breakfast menu for folks just popping in on their way to work.

I'm okay, well...better. I've been off-line for a couple days as I spent a night in Omaha and then off to work. All of my daughter's friends are accounted for. We're still gettiing bits and pieces about the victims, so as each new story unfolds, it takes you back a bit.....As an example, one of the victims was a lady from the small town where I live. Omaha will always be my hometown, but I live about 8 miles north of there in Fort Calhoun. She was from here. We've also been getting more and more "miracle" stories....people who were almost there that day, but for some extenuating circumstance, kept them away. "Close calls" within the mall itself, harrowing escapes...stories like that. In the aftermath, as a city was visibly reeling and struggling to cope, we were given a distraction of sorts. We had a six-inch snowfall, light and fluffy...came down fast all day. Not pleasant to drive in at all, but very beautiful to just stand at a window and take in....We desperately needed something to pull us away from the television screens, and the mind-numbing facts coming over the radio airwaves, and the snowstorm was our relief. It was as if God said, "I wash it all clean..." Thank you, everyone, for asking about me. Still keep us in your prayers.

..so as each new story unfolds, it takes you back a bit.....

Ruth, glad to hear you and Kelly are okay. This brought back memories of a very similar incident that happened here in Salt Lake City in February of this year. People at a mall, just out shopping for Valentine's Day cards and gifts, having a nice meal with their family and here comes a gunman (only 18 years old). Five lives taken. It's just so senseless and sad....yes indeed, TIMES ARE HARD. God bless the victims and their families.

Guess I'll just have a light meal this morning. Got some fresh squeezed o-jay and a banana nut muffin? I'm going to mosey over by the window and check out the morning newspaper.

I'm gonna pull up a comfy chair in front of the fire and prop my feet up. The Christmas lights are beautiful in the dark, twinkling in the firelight. I've got a Black Wolf in one hand and am listening to LLB's new Christmas CD (imaginary). The Boys' harmony on Silent Night is out of this world!

Oreo is purring in my lap, very nearly putting me out for the night. Snow is falling softly outside, covering the pine branches and ground. Smells of gingerbread baking fills the room. At this moment, at this one tiny moment, there is Peace on Earth - at least on my small part of it.

Niño's Eyes in Candlelight
Snowfall Serenade

For a second there I thought I had missed a new Christmas CD by the Boys, then I saw the imaginary part. Haha That sure would be something, eh? I can just imagine their version of Silent Night. Definitely out of this world.

I took a half day at work today, and my parents and I went and got our Christmas tree. It was fun. We always cut down our own. So now there is a bare tree sitting in our livingroom, and hopefully it will get decorated tomorrow afternoon (although tomorrow is the Steelers vs. Patriots game  ...definitely gonna have to watch that!)

The place is looking pretty all desked out....You need one of my wreaths on the door, tho'. I'll bring in one later. (Oreo is rubbing up against Mamacita's legs) Yes, critter, I'm sneaking you extra link sausages, sshhhh.. I like those song titles, Belle, that you came up with for the Boys' Christmas album....You forgot "I'm Dreamin' of a Tejas Christmas"....Coffee!? Where'd I lay my coffee down?...Ah, there it is!

Sounds so yummy Trish, let's enjoy this awesome comfort food while we can...it's almost the end of the year anyway....we'll worry about our Loopie Diets in January. We all want to feel great (and could use the energy) for the upcoming Road Tour sure to come from the new CD...and then there's that Onda Cruise. Think I'll be spending more time at the Salad Bar, Belle keeps it well stocked with just about every topping and dressing you can imagine and there's even some low-cal but tasty desserts to cure that sweet tooth. Maybe we can take some calorie-burning walks through the beautiful park and flower garden behind the Bistro (it's huge) that was donated by a benefactor known only as H J R, I even hear there's a little gazebo there where a 3 Man Band plays on occasion to their admirers. :D

Debra

I was taken aback when I read that Henry, Jojo and Ringo are allergic to flowers (The leis in Hawaii made them uncomfortable) Poor guys.
Now my children have grown and gone, my garden is my great provider of joy and inspiration. Planting things, caring for them, watching them grow...can't imagine life without it. Soul food for me :)
I was out taking "baby pics" just yesterday.

That's sad the guys are allergic to flowers. :( I love to garden and like Cass, I find them a great companion and comfort at times. I guess their allergy explains why the gazebo is in the area of the park with all the pine and quaking aspen trees. Cool and shady in the summer, too! An elf (often seen lately in that area of the park, hehe ;) ) told me that the gazebo and trees are going to DRESSED IN HOLIDAY STYLE before the week is out. Wouldn't a 'turning on the lights' party be fun? Just an idea. Maybe invite that 3 Man Band to play, I hear old St. Nick is available for guest appearances, he plays a pretty mean guitar. Heck yeah, rockin' around the Christmas Tree, hot drinks of all sorts (mmm..hot buttered spiced rum), rides in a BUMPIN', newly painted, detailed, leather seats, (courtesy of the Texican Chop Shop) loads of chrome, 'low-rider' FLYING SLEIGH!!
Let's sing now (tune: One Horse Open Sleigh) "Orale, Orale, Onda Orale, Oh what fun it is to ride in a low-rider Flying Sleigh, HEY!! It has a state-of-the-art stereo system, of course, and it's arriving soon from the North-Onda Pole...okay, okay, I know I'm getting a little carried away here. Hmmm....could be a fun story in there, ladies, Los Lonely Boys and their low rider sleigh, delivering presents of musical joy and sharing their talent for the sake of worthy causes... the blessed gift of Buena Onda to those who still believe in Miracles That Happen Every Day. Anyway, I'll take some of that french toast and a large orange juice. Then it's off to get some Christmas shopping done.

I've got two presents still to wrap, and then I'm done with that part of it. I just sent my parents a beautiful Christmas bouquet for their gift. (They don't need or want anything, but this will make the house look festive.)

Oh, not only did I have to call a plumber, but our DVD player died on us, and the belt broke on our vacuum cleaner. Gremlins. It's gremlins, I tell ya! :D

(Geez, I hope I'm not on Santa's naughty list.)

and goodwill to all women
:D
My new (well re-newed) celebrity crush. Ewan McGregor. I've been watching his motorbike adventure story "Long Way Round" - inspirational. I've bought myself the DVD "Long Way Down" for Christmas...tempted to rip it open and watch it NOW!!
That is so cool that Steph and Cree spent fun time together. Two good women in my opinion.....with impeccable taste in music.
Sadly my young friend's dad died of a heart attack on Sunday. The poor kids did their best to revive him but it was instant, absolutely no warning signs. They are shattered. He was only 43, he and his wife were high school sweethearts. Suppose it's yet another lesson to treasure the moment and take every opportunity to express your love.
I wake up at about 4:30 am and listen to the radio for a while. I'm loving it. The presenter is digging up the maddest Christmas songs...and some beautiful ones too. Peace on earth indeed......from the bottom of my heart.

WEDNESDAY MORNING

Howdy, howdy. I'm getting here so late, but I finally got some sleep. Yesterday and plumbing - grrrr - gave me fits. The tree roots were removed and the plumber left. Then, when DH got home, he found water running through the kitchen and across the dining room floor. Apparently, we have another problem with the kitchen pipes. So, he turned off the water in that room and left me with it today to go to work.

The repairman will hopefully be in sometime today. I have NO idea what he'll find. Fortunately, we have insurance for just this type of thing, so I'm not sweating the repair bill - just the 'what ifs'. Hope it's nothing serious. I can just envision them ripping up walls a few days before Christmas and company.

Breakfast:

cottage cheese and peaches
toast
grab-n-go kruellers

Oi...what a week. Haven't had any time to check in with yinz here in the Bistro. Belle...good to hear your plumbing woes have been resolved. I remember one year on Christmas eve, several years ago: my dad had gone to work, and my brother and I were home with our mom. My dad called to say that he had had transmission trouble on the way to work, and had called a mechanic, and the car had to be taken in. Our washer had been on the fritz, and stopped working that afternoon as well. And our toilet wouldn't stop running, so while my dad was on the phone, I asked him what he wanted me to. He told me to pull up on the little black thing inside the back of the toilet. He didn't quite specify which black thing though, and I pulled the wrong one, which created a fountain in our bathroom. Ahhh, good times. Hehe.

I definitely had a great time in Florida (well, except for the depressing Steelers game). It was great getting to meet and hang out with Cree. I finally was able to download my pics, so here is the pic of us.

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/1697/florida1207006da2.jpg

Is everyone ready for Christmas? Done with the shopping? I'm almost done, and hopefully tomorrow night I will get around to making cookies and candles. I had choir rehearsal Tuesday and Wednesday night, in preperation for our Christmas eve services (we have 4). The music is gonna be so awesome! And we always do the whole lighting candles thing at the end. It will be so cool to see the candle light spreading throughout the room from up on the stage.

Have a good night, everyone! :)

well here's something completely different. A circus is setting up near to where I live. Their first performance is tomorrow night. It just came on the news that one of their two elephants slipped as it was being unloaded and killed it's handler. The elephants are named gigi! and arna. I feel sorry for them. They are smart animals and they will know something is terribly wrong.
Suppose I'm just telling you 'cause I thought it was kinda funny the elephant is named Gigi.

And everything is wet wet wet now. Misery personified...but still smiling and groovin'. The white lilies I posted a pic of are flattened to the ground. THAT'S better!....feeling left out here. (I like it!) :p

Well, once again, the 'nite owl' beat me to the kitchen. I was going to set out breakfast, but I'll just add something to the spread that I love (and what loves me!):

orange French toast

Cass, I hope your rain lets up soon....I love to watch the rain, but even after a while, enough's enough. It soaks through to your very spirit.....It was beautiful here yesterday. Well, beautiful for January in Nebraska....It was 50, heat wave. Kinda sad to see all the golf course tee flags just sitting silently like little forgotten soldiers in the snow.....waiting for Spring, like all of us.

Belle

Hey, Ruth. Please don't feel left out. :( I took some time with yours, that's all. The inspiration came from your description of Mamacita Ruby's in Miko and Lil. Hence, the warm colors and the "invite you to my kitchen" kinda feel.

Perfect Belle, just perfect thank you.
The green background is appropriate. I was saying yesterday just for a change it would be nice to be somewhere that the leaves change colour. Everything here is green green green ( better than drought brown brown brown, so I'll stop complaining) Appeals to the Irish in me too.
And the lilies remind me of my other favourite Irish man, Luka Bloom. A chorus from one of his songs...
"...May the sun shine down on you
Dive into the blue
May all your days be sublime
And as the sun goes down
And the starry night surrounds
May you dream white lilies sometimes....."

You are having a lot of fun with your new toy/tool. I am intimidated by the complexity of a lot of programs we have but hub always says just use them, experiment, learn. Hmmmmmm, easier than it sounds imho.

ahh I also see now!! green and gold...the Aussie colours

Mmmm...dinner sounds good. I had a big lunch, though, so I'm just gonna skip right to dessert. I love rasberries!

Belle...I love the ID thing you made for my name! :D So cool! I love the scripty letters and the color!

Cree...good luck with the photo contest! Sounds like fun!

It sounds like everyone is doing well, had a good new year's eve and all. Happy anniversary to the Bistro! 2 years already! Time sure does fly! Cass...I know how you feel about the rain. It's been glooooomy and rainy here a LOT recently. That's winter in Pittsburgh for ya. I wish we would get a really good snow storm, though. I wanna go sled riding and make a snow man and all that stuff. It's supposed to get up to about 58 degrees this week! What's up with that?

Steph - it's in the 80s here today! We're breaking the record high (no duh!).

Cass - I bought this software to make book covers in vector, rather than in pixel graphics. In pixel, if you resize the text or picture, it distorts. In vector, it doesn't. Making all of these User ID pictures is really helping me learn the software tools as well as composition and use of color. I suppose you could use these on a blog or on a street team badge or... who knows. I'm just enjoying the experiment, as well as learning a ton. :D

It sure is a beautiful day here today. The wind has finally died down and the sun is out.

One of my dogs, the youngest, likes to 'dive-bomb' snuggle. That means, when I jusssttt get comfortable and on the edge of sleep, she runs into the room and yells "Ki-wha-bonga" as she dives onto the bed and burrows against my back. *sigh* It takes me another half an hour to get back to that 'sleepy' state. In the meantime, she's already out like a light.

It was a beautiful day here today! (Too bad I work inside all day with no windows. ) It's getting a bit cooler. Honestly, I kind of miss the cold weather and the snow. There so many fun things to do in the snow, like sledding, skiing (not that I ski), building snow sculptures. It just feels wrong that it is in the 60s in January! Sheesh! I remember last year, though, we got more snow on Easter than we did for Christmas. Weird.

How was everyone else's Wednesday? Good, I hope!

If I win Lotto I'd build a new house that looks like Bag End and try and find a gardener like Sam Gamgee. He's my favourite LOTR character.

PS: the elephants (one called Gigi!) that killed the trainer a few weeks ago, have been confiscated from the circus and taken to the Western Plains Zoo. At least they won't spend their days in a circus truck and a small enclosure.

aww too cute Belle. A hobbit house.
6 degrees of separation Sue. My mum's name is Lily . Lily of the Valley flowers remind me of her. I gave her "It's a Wonderful Life" DVD at Christmas time. I'll bet she hasn't watched it yet, she's too edgy about my old dad. She cries every time I talk to her on the phone :(
The Australian Open tennis tournament is on at the moment. My new fave tennis player (since Andre retired) is powering. Go Rafael Nadal.
It's the Australia Day long weekend this week in...well Australia. Hub's band Los Garbos are playing. I pledge not to get drunk. I nearly died after NYE :D

I love it, Belle! Perfect. A few years ago I lived in what they called a "garden level" apartment, really a basement. But I always felt like it was my little hobbit house underground.

Thanks,
Sue :)

Sue, I'm so glad you like your graphic. I tried to get as many of your favorites in there. It's blue, with lily of the valley planted outside the hobbit house. Unless I had "Nobody Else" wafting out the front window, I didn't know how to get that in there. :D

Dinner:

lasagna - hot and cheesy
spinach salad
garlic bread

spumoni w/almond cookies

Howdy ya'll! Man, I need to get in here more often. How's everyone doing? Looks like quite a few people are getting frigid weather. It was about 5 degrees here on Sunday. In the 2 minutes it took to walk from church to the car, my fingers were hurtin and my face was frozen! I can't even imagine how those football players in Green Bay felt! (...I'm still kinda bummed that they lost.)

Alright, I gotta ask...what exactly is a mukluk? Can't say I've ever really heard that term before. Is it kind of like a babushka? :p

I'm so excited...tomorrow after work I am going to look at a car. And hopefully I will end up getting one soon. My very first car! Woohoo! The car I am looking at tomorrow is a 2001 Ford Focus. It sounds like a good car, and it is at a fairly reasonable price (and it's red...I'm quite partial to red cars).

So what's new with everyone else? Anything new and exciting going on in anyone's lives?

Mmm... comfort food.
I've had a frustrating evening. Sat down to pay bills and realized I had thrown away the stack of bills somehow when I was organizing and the trash was picked up this morning. :( I've spent the last few hours trying to remember what was in the stack and finding balances and addresses to mail to on the web. Oh well, just one of those stupid things that happens.

I'll put on some LLB music - that always works to get me in a good mood!

Hmmm, sounds good. But I will have to pass on the carrots. I hate cooked carrots - BLAH :( :(

It's not so cold here - somewhere around the low 50's. So I think I will make some coffee with Bailey's. I'll make enough for anyone else that wants some.

This should be a nice long weekend for me. I am taking off Monday and Tuesday as vacation. Really just hanging around the house trying to do some organization in my 2 spare rooms, and the do some shopping on Monday. I gotta use some of my gift certificates I got for Xmas.

Hope everyone else has a great weekend.

Hey y'all. Ev, I'm with ya on the cooked carrots. Yuck!

So I did it...I finally got my first car! And it's really cute too! And so fun to drive. I'll have to post a pic of it when I am actually around it in the daylight. And Belle, when I was test driving the car, the guy from my church who works on cars and help me find this one, told me I was a good driver. :p Teehee.

How is everyone else's weekend going so far? Doing anything fun? Freezing your butts off? ;) Ev...have fun and good luck shopping and organizing this weekend.

How is everyone today? Congrats on your car Steph!! Have fun and be safe. Wow, does that bring back alot of memories of when I got my first car...a used red 1965 Volkswagon Beetle. I bought it in 1971 when I was working at a local hamburger shop after school. Gas was.....are ya ready? 25 cents a gallon, yep one quarter!! I could fill it up for $2.50 and it would last all week. Lol, I remember the "DELUXE" Burger at the shop (with all the trimmings) sold for 21 cents. Money went so much farther back then.
Anybody got fun plans today? I'll take a large coffee, with sugar and EXTRA cream.

Well, Debra, I took your suggestion on the public form for creating a graphic on "Magic Man". I posted it there and on the Henry thread here. I hope you like it.

Now, y'all ready for Sunday dinner?

pot roast
roasted potatoes
sauted mushrooms and onions
tossed salad
rolls

Kahlua cheesecake

Hey Steph...you will love your car. It's funny, but my previous car was a RED FOCUS...and I loved it. It was so much fun to drive. Had it for about 4 years; and then traded it in for a Taurus, which I happen to really love. I wanted something a little bigger. So have fun :D :D

OBTW, I will have a SUPER HUGE piece of the Kahlua Cheesecake. I love sweets. :D

Mmm...kahlua cheesecake. That sounds yummy. My parents got this blue rasberry martini mix, and we made some tonight. It was really good.

Not much going on with me this weekend. Worked yesterday. Gotta deal with all the insurance stuff tomorrow. And I got my sax lesson. How was everyone else's weekend? Do anything fun?

Alright, I just gotta share a pic of my new car (I've even got a guitar air freshener and keychain. ) Isn't she cute? Hehe.

Steph, now the fun part of decking it out with LLB Stuff....license plate, bumper sticker, music library, etc. What is it we ladies like about RED cars? I've owned three myself over the years.

Hope we all have a great week waiting for us. I just love that Magic Man graphic Belle, my favorite so far...Henry's heart channeling his soul through his guitar, straight into the heavens. We all feel that when he plays.

...lurking in the shadows...MWAAAHHHH.... I'll sit and have coffee with ya, Belle...(and maybe a plate of that omelet). It's back to work for me today. Into the fridgid tundra again....It was high 40's, 50's here the last 3 days. Now, this morning, it's 15...Cute car, Steph! It's funny how it stirs up memories of everyone's first car....Mine was a Rambler with push-button keys for the transmission instead of a gear shift. My parents thought it was "sensible"...I thought it was UGLY...I listened to an old interview the Boys' did when they opened the Chop Shop...Joey was saying how "old cars have a story" to tell about...where they've been, etc...If MY first car could talk, MY MY MY!! :D

red cars definitely go faster :)...happy and safe motoring to you Steph.
Spare a positive thought if you will. My 23 year old nephew is having major surgery on his chest today. He has a very pronounced pigeon chest and what they are doing today is gruesome, I woke up very early and couldn't get back to sleep just thinking about it.He should have had it done when he was about 16, when his bones were softer. I hope it brings him relief, he's the most painfully shy kid I know. Lord watch over our Wayne.
My youngest son will be in Brisbane today too, signing the lease for his new house. We're moving their belongings up there on the weekend and then that's it!! all my kids will live in another State, 4 hours drive away :( :( :(
it's a weird feeling. I don't like it so far. Got to find a new purpose. I got way too much love for just my hub. I'd be a foster parent if we didn't live so far out in the boon docks.

Cass - I hope by now you've gotten good news on Wayne's surgery. I'm sorry you're going through the 'empty nest' syndrome. But, you should be proud of raising so many fine children! That's quite an accomplishment nowadays.

Steph - vroom vroom!

And Ruth - you, a lurker? hehehehe We need to get you a cape or something.

Dinner:

mac and cheese
green peas
cornbread sticks
