In talking with Kevin before the show I told him I had a song request. He smiled politely, knowing the set list was already in place. I said "Carol of the Bells". He looked so surprised, then grinned and started talking about how special that song is - even when they were recording it, they knew. I told him it needed nominated for a Grammy and he agreed. Now...just how do we go about doing that? I don't know.

Well, it was released OCTOBER 14, 2008, so we definitely are within the parameters for eligibility, but short of JOINING the academy to become a VOTING member, not sure HOW this could be accomplished??? We need a list of VOTING MEMBERS to "persuade"!! LOL....La Onda CAN be VERY persuasive!

"To be eligible for an award a recording must have been commercially released between October 1, 2008, and August 31, 2009, for all recordings released in the 2009 recording year. The eligibility period has been shortened due to the Grammy Awards being moved up to January from February. The nominations are announced after the votes of the nominating ballots have been tabulated. Following the announcement of nominations final voting ballots are sent to the academy members who then vote. Members are allowed to vote in the General field and up to eight other fields on their final voting ballots. All ballots are tabulated by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Approximately 7,000 people take part in the nomination and final voting process. This includes artists, producers, engineers, mixers and mastering engineers for the most part. Academy members are expected to vote based upon quality alone, and should not to be influenced by mass sales or personal friendships. The acceptance of gifts is prohibited and can result in termination of membership."

P.S. Glad you had a great time, Belle!

MONDAY MORNING

Hey, y'all! Get all your groceries in for Turkey Day? Are you gonna bake it? Fry it? Forget it and order pizza?

I finally got over my crud, but then Dixie came down with something and had a fever of 104. The vet gave her some antibiotics and she finally ate something (after 2 days) and wanted to play ball yesterday. We are so relieved! Now she's back to her sweet bossy self.

Breakfast:

eggs on toast
fresh grapes

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, Y'ALL!

My SIL arrived last night a little later than planned. Road construction and a highway accident kept her crawling through traffic. But, she's here now and Dixie is beside herself with excitement. Someone else to play with!

If you're on the road, I pray you're kept safe.

Hope the weekend goes well for everyone.
I was groaning and shuffling after my son's birthday party. I was awake until 5 am and then 2 hours later I'm cooking breakfast. It was a great party...even with an inch of rain in a storm just as the sun was going down and it was BBQ time. I soldiered on and then had a ball as the night progressed.

Had to show you this guy. I was calling him "the dog whisperer"
He was determined to make friends with Mo and Rose my chihuahua puppies. They are very shy. Their mother and Maisie were all over him but the puppies remained nervous.

They have been swimming in the dam this past week for the first time in their lives. So funny to watch. Mo's long hair weighs him down. I have bought them a small inflatable raft so I can tow them around.

Hey, there! Well, we had our big BLIZZARD on Tuesday and Wednesday. Yesterday, it got all the way up to 7, and today, it was almost a heat wave! It was 22 degrees when I left work at 3:30.....My body is hurtin' from all the shovelin' yesterday, but at least we're not supposed to get hit again for a while. How's everyone else faring? Does Houston still have snow on the ground?

hola musiclovers
no snow here, just hot hot days and evening electrical storms. Typical summer weather. Santa wears a red bikini down here :)
My youngest DIL's 17 year old brother was hit by a car the other night. Awful broken bones in his face, missing teeth and his ankle is broken. Worst thing is a bruised brain which is effecting his behaviour and emotions. Geez it was scary. Thought we'd lost him.
Going to spend some time with my partner in crime today. We'll have our first listen to the LLB Christmas songs for the season.

it's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. I'm not organised but that's OK. Last minute scramble is fun. I'm buying us a nectarine tree each to celebrate the season. Shade and fruit for the future I hope. I've lost some of my major front yard shade trees in the past few weeks. Getting too big and could be a bushfire threat. I miss them.
Luka Bloom just posted his Christmas newsletter , looking back on the past year. I like this bit...

"..........It really is tough to select shows which stand out for me this year. The first (of 2) show in Byron Bay in Australia, Brownsfield Maine, The City Winery in New York, AB in Brussels, the old church in Ottersum in Holland, the tent in Dzogchen Beara, Ryston in Newbridge, the old mill near Bern, the courthouse in Tinahely..........If I am forced to select a stand-out moment for me this year, it would be singing for the first time with an orchestra, in the National Concert Hall in Dublin......."

Hey, the first thing on his list, Byron Bluesfest....I was there !!!:D;):)

Going to go and see Airborne Blues Virus this afternoon. I still want to hear Henry jam with Jode one of these days. My Christmas wish

that,
and love and peace in all your lives. Merry Christmas musiclovers.

One of our dogs, Tillie, moved in with us over 13 years ago when someone moved away and abandoned her. She wasn't abused, but more neglected, and didn't realize we were talking to HER. She spoiled up quickly, though. Learned what a cookie was in one brief lesson and then took over the middle of the bed. We noticed a few days ago that she had an infected tooth. The vet gave her antibiotics and a few other things to bring the infection down so he could pull the tooth in a few weeks. Walking out of the kitchen and into the living room yesterday morning, she dropped dead. Just like that. I still don't believe it happened. I'm sad, but also grateful that she found us to live with. She had a good, well-loved life.

Ah, Belle....so sorry about Tillie. My childhood dog was a little tan and white terrier named Trixie. When I was about 13, mama saw her run across the backyard (while I was still at school) and just stop in her tracks. She had a stroke and died. The vet said she went quick, and though I was heartbroken, I was relieved she didn't suffer. They are so much a part of your life, it's just always hard, no matter what.

I like your pic, very pretty. I'm sure you'll be treating us to more soon!

I'm finally back home from the Christmas Blizzard of 2009 (what they're calling it here). Three days holed up in a hotel in Omaha....no internet,. Watched LOTS of TV....Came home to 6 foot drifts all across my driveway. Had to go and buy a shovel just to start making a path to my house. Finally, my neighbors and their kids all came and rescued me! So I'm inside now and so is the car. What you notice most of all driving home is these HUGE walls of snow everywhere...it's just unreal. And we're supposed to get some more this next weekend...YIKES! Wasn't the worst Christmas I ever spent, but darn close....lol. Hope everyone else did better!

Hi! When I go to visit my daughter in the mountains where her only heat is a woodstove (!), I have found that one of those electric throws is most valuable! They usually cost less than $25, and you just plug that puppy in and lay it across your lap, and voila, the chills disappear. You can tell mom that it uses very little electricity (true). You probably can't do that at work, but how about a heating pad in your lap? That and a nice hot cup of Constant Comment tea should chase away the shivers. I just hate to be cold!
Sending you warm hugs from California...

The saga of our bathroom remodeling project continues...

We thought the counter top installers would be here Friday. Got a call last night at 8:30 that they'd be here this morning. I went into red alert.

Got up early to make a path through the clutter wide enough for the crew to haul a huge piece of heavy granite, then I threw the dogs outside (man, they're NOT happy), then I actually made the bed!!!

Now, the crew is here - speaking Spanish - and running up and down the rat trail I made. Wish us all luck.

Man, this has been a long week! Only a day and a half left of work though! Woohoo! And it got up to almost 40 degrees here today! That's almost a heat wave! I'm about to break out the flip flops. Hehe.:p

MONDAY MORNING

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

Do you get today off? DH does, which is a very good thing because our saga not only continues, but has taken on a new dimension.

DH bought supplies for our bathroom remodeling project, including sheets of drywall. He pulled into the backyard to unload it - and got the truck stuck up to its axle in mud (after all the snow/rain we've had, it's a swamp back there). He thought he was close enough to the house to not get stuck.

Anyway, that was Saturday. Sunday he spent most of it trying to get the truck free and gave up around 5:30. He called a tow truck which promptly came out - and also got stuck!!

A second tow truck showed up eventually and got the first one free, but together they still couldn't get our truck out.

So, DH and our neighbor are going out Monday to rent some kinda monster wench/pulley deal and try that. If that doesn't work, the tow truck drivers said to call them back and they'd bring in the big guns.

In the meantime, DH is stewing over the torn up bathroom - no water, tools and garbage all over the counter and floor - and all his "free" time taken up with the truck.

Hopefully, by this time tomorrow, it'll all be over with but the crying.

Breakfast:

scrambled egg burritos
fresh grapes

TUESDAY MORNING

Okay, like I was saying about our truck dilemma before I went to sleep... DH got up Monday and he and our neighbor went on a hunt to rent a cable/wench/pulley gizmo. They couldn't find one, and buying one was too costly.

Sooo...he called the tow truck company. The woman answering the phone said, "I've heard about you." She sent the same driver out. He had a brand new 1/2" chain cable that he attached to our truck. The cable broke! The hook came off too. Unwilling to admit defeat, he tied his cable in a knot and finally wrestled our truck out!

Yahoo!!

DH took the truck to the car wash and when he was done, noticed water pouring out of the muffler. That's how far the truck had sunk. Ground water had filled the muffler pipe.

He didn't get his to-do list started, but at least he can drive to work today. And, the whole adventure only cost $250. :p:p

Hope everybody has a good day.

Breakfast:

brown sugar oatmeal
sweet pears

Hi, gang! We're half way to the weekend. ;) DH got to work with his un-stuck truck, only to find a flat later yesterday. It just took a few minutes to get the tire changed, but honestly - enough already! :p

The Boys have posted a ka-yute retro picture on their FaceBook page. It's only up for a short time so, if you haven't seen it yet, better hop over there and look. Plus, they're hinting at a European tour. I can hear Claudia and Mel screaming all the way here at just the possibility.

.......... Got any fun plans for the weekend?

Yes indeedy. 'Twas Australia Day on January 26. So a lot of people made it a 4-day weekend. I went to a car show with hub and 2 eldest sons.
My pick. My high school sweetheart's dad bought a brand new one back in the 70s. We LOVED being able to borrow it and fang around. Sweet memories.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/cass2/FFcoupeJan2010.jpg

My son wanted to buy this car

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/cass2/camJan2010.jpg

You're dreamin' son. He needs to buy some land, not another big car.

Then celebrated a good friend's birthday. Wild girls sleepover/talkfest.
Then had a day of heaven on earth at the beach. The ocean was like a crystal clear pale green swimming pool. No waves, just how I like it.
THEN went to a festival to celebrate the indigenous culture of Australia. Two of my favourite koori artists performed. Troy Cassar-Daley and Archie Roach.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/cass2/TroyJan26-2010.jpg

My pic of Troy performing. Not a good photo. He is one of Australia's best natural born musicians imho. Here's a link if you want to know more.

http://saltwaterfreshwaterfestival.org/the-program/troy-cassar-daley/

He just won 5 more Golden Guitars, best country artist, best album, song of the year. I am SOOOOOOOOOO proud of him.

darlin' Archie and Ruby. Love on legs those two.
http://saltwaterfreshwaterfestival.org/the-program/archie-roach-ruby-hunter/

and was surprised by a band I'd never seen before. The funkiest bass player. Shame it was too hot to dance near the stage. They played at midday and the temperature reached 40 degrees celcius. Meltdown.
http://saltwaterfreshwaterfestival.org/the-program/white-house/

This was funny. They had an event titled "So you think you can didge"
Didgeridoos sound amazing when played well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/cass2/didgeJan26-2010.jpg

I've just had a ball. Watched Los Lonely Boys in Austin DVD when I got home.
Perfect end to a perfect day.

Would you like to try what I ate for lunch yesterday?

*Crocodile and chilli sausage with lemon myrtle sauce.
*Balinese nuts ( my friend just got back from there and bought in 5kgs, they are unique and delicious)
*Fresh lychees and mango from my backyard tree. We have a bumper crop this year.

God Bless y'all.
I love Australia, my friends and family, music and LLB

My mom sent this email to me, and I got quite a laugh out of it! I hope y'all enjoy it!

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day..

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this -- ever.

15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? **** it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

18. My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How the hell do I respond to that?

19. I think the freezer deserves a light as well..

20. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lites than Kay.

My brother and his youngest daughter spent yesterday with us. Brother helping DH put walls back in the bathroom (yay!!) and niece and me chatting like magpies, having the best time (she's 16 and as cute as a bug!)

From the sounds of FaceBook, the Boys are itching to get back on stage. I know their fans are itching to see them. Gonna be great! If you're on the Street Team, please be sure and catch Jeanette's post about the 2010 badges and swag.

Prayers going up for all who need them - health and wisdom and finances and relationships.

I've been eating my mangoes with vanilla yoghurt, a heavenly combination. Ice cream would be nice too. I'll be glad when the tree is empty of fruit. It hangs over my bedroom and it's like explosions going off all night as the mangoes hit the tin roof. It sets the dogs off barking too. The usual bedlam :)

The Bluesfest draws closer and I'm getting excited. I'm taking my youngest son and his GF for the first time. We are REALLY looking forward to seeing Newton Faulkner. Here's the line-up so far............

Jack Johnson, The Gipsy Kings, Lyle Lovett
Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club ®
John Mayall
Newton Faulkner
Donavon Frankenreiter, Béla Fleck's African Project featuring Oumou Sangaré
The Flatlanders, The Greencards, Old Crow Medicine Show
Justin Townes Earle, GALACTIC featuring Cyril Neville (Neville Brothers)
Lil Band O' Gold, Jessica Mauboy, Joe Bonamassa
Rockwiz, Renee Geyer, Josh White Jr., Grace Barbe, Umphrey's McGee
Jen Cloher & The Endless Sea, Johnny Green's Blues Cowboys
Tijuana Cartel, Chase The Sun, Music Maker Relief Foundation
Poor Man's Whiskey,Troy Cassar-Daley, Warren H. Williams

Tijuana Cartel has a brilliant guitarist and grooves. I haven't heard of some of the artists but that is part of the fun of the Bluesfest, discovering new music.

NO LOS LONELY BOYS :( when oh when?

So who is everyone rooting for in the Superbowl? I'm hoping the Saints win, but I like the Colts too, so I won't be upset if they win.

You just never know what is going to happen next. I am so sad today. Found out yesterday Ruby Hunter died. Archie will be devastated. She was his light, his love. My heart breaks for him.
Their music has meant so much to me and so has their example of pure love.

She was the inspiration for so many of his songs...

"her gentle spirit, her sacred ways and her smile,
may disappear, they may not be here in a little while.
Sister moon, sister girl, giving birth
Mother nature, mother of pearl, sweet mother earth

So my brother don't hurt her anymore
she's got her lore , you've got yours...."

"....love in the morning is the greatest gift I know,
It makes my spirit sing here in the afterglow.
I touch your body and I touch your soul
Hold me darlin' till I grow old..
It's a spiritual thing...makes my spirit sing"

http://www.standard.net.au/news/local/news/general/tributes-flow-for-ruby-hunter/1755120.aspx

why do the good die young? I had my most powerful and memorable musical experience whilst watching Ruby and Archie perform. It was like a tendril physically reached out from them and enveloped me. No I wasn't on drugs, just really hurting and it was like they knew.
They were so much fun too. He walked across the stage and leaned behind her to sing into her microphone. She stopped the song and said "daddy, you go back to your side" and as he walked away she said, "ah that man, he makes me go weak at the knees"

Archie once signed his CD for me and he wrote "look to the sky"

RIP RUBY...a precious gem of a girl. :(

Hey y'all! And welcome, Cat! Glad to see you around here!

It is finally the weekend! And I actually took this Saturday off work. I'm going to a baby shower, then I'm gonna spend all afternoon Saturday cleaning out my bedroom, organizing, and getting rid of stuff. I'm in spring cleaning mode. I usually hate cleaning, so I figured I'd go with with it while I'm on a role. Hehe.

Anyone else have anything fun planned for the weekend?

Cat_House
03-12-2010, 11:24 PM
Saturday heading out for some off roading and hiking with friends - followed by a museum pot luck and cool lecture (by friends). Sunday should be a little more chill - probably go rock hounding with friends (and the hounds) and then go to the range and do a little shooting. Oh yeah, full on redneck weekend! :D

Morning LaOnda!

I am so excited about the Houston contest! Me and hubby Michael entered it - hoping to win! LaOnda friends from out of state are hooking up with us in Dallas on Apr 10 for the Ft Worth Arts Festival concert, and they are going on to Houston for the concert there, so if we won we could join them there too!

On a sadder note, I am working on our taxes this weekend. Wish me luck.

Cat - I think you did it right. Did I?

Have a good Friday y'all!

Belle

Hey, Steph, threads don't disappear. You do a search for them. On the first brown box at the top, you'll see links in blue, starting with "User CP". Look several links to the right of that and you'll see "Search". If you're looking for something specific, you can click on "Advanced".

Good luck!

Hey everybody...I sure hope there are leftover margaritas, I'm in need!
Had a rough day...was heading out the door to meet my mom and kids for lunch when I realized there was water all over the kitchen and family room floor! Called my hubby in a panic, where is the main water shut off??? (it's a good thing to know loopies ) I told him he best make his way home, think it's a pipe burst since I can still hear water flowing after turning off the water. So I started with the shop vac...ugh. He made it home and took over, I missed lunch but got my kids to their ortho appt. Came home to clean floors and fixed pipe! Yaye. Got to love my handyman hubby. ;)
Thank goodness it happened before I left for the day...that would have been a nightmare, so as bad as it was...I'm grateful, it could have been much worse.
Funny thing was hubby thought I was playing an April Fool's joke on him!! lol

Yikes! I'm glad things worked out, Cindy!

I felt like I could have used a margarita by the time I got home yesterday. I had a rehearsal at 7, and I usually get home from work about 6. I figured I'd have plenty of time to eat dinner, etc, and get to rehearsal on time. Well...my car started acting up right after I left work. I barely managed to make it to a gas station out near work (my car had a little more than a half tank of gas, but the fuel pump is bad). I managed to make it to the highway, and traveled a few miles before the car started acting up again. Had to pull over. Sat there for about 10 minutes, and after I restarted the car, it seemed to be okay. I had to pull over again closer to home. I did manage to make it home, change, grab a quick bite to eat, then was out the door again (took a different car). I ended up being half an hour late to rehearsal. Needless to say, the car is going in the shop next week.

Hola mi amigos! Como estas? Estoy muy bien, pero muy cansada. Hehe. This is gonna be a busy week. I play in a community band and jazz band, and our concert is this coming Sunday. And I'm trying to learn to play flute by then. Haha. After this week, my schedule will open up a bit. That will be nice to have some more free time to read/practice/work out.

I had such a wonderful time in Texas! It was so cool that I finally got to meet Belle and get to know her better! And her dogs are just sweetest. The concerts were awesome! Both Jonny and the Boys were on fiyah!

Well, I am off to practice a little more then make some Mexican Fudge for a class I have on Wednesday nights. But I brought some by the Bistro to share with y'all. It's still warm and gooey! Have a good one, everybody!:)

Note to self: you love your dog and are more connected to him than you realize.

I took my Bandit to Petco Saturday for a grooming/nail clipping session. It was my very first time. When I got there Bandit was whining - from fear or that he was smelling the other pooches I couldn't tell. He peed on the floor. :o I cleaned that up. The lady at the counter says "We'll call you in 2-3 hrs when he's ready."

I said what? (they didn't bother to tell me this when i called to make the appt) I clutched his leash with the force of an alligator attack. 2-3 hrs?!?, I said. The glaze in the lady's eye said "oh boy she's one of these types". She disappeared & came back with a younger woman, foreign.

It took a few minutes, but they managed to convince me Bandit would be fine. I was nearly hyperventilating/in tears and to make matters worse Bandit started shaking and whining when the young woman picked him up. She was very kind and good to him but it doesn't really matter when your doggie-baby is crying for you. I had to walk around petco for an hour before i could make myself leave.

Of course everything turned out okay. It made me feel stupid when I picked him up & he was fine (he buried his cute little head right under my chin into my neck). But omg, I didn't realize how connected to him I am until Saturday. I know I love him, but well - now I realize how much. :o :D

Oh, dear, Cree. I'm the same way. That's why I can never leave my fur babies in a kennel. If we can't take them with us, I find a house/dog sitter, so they at least get to stay at home.

Steph, congrats on your new 'puter. I had to replace the keyboard on mine.

DH and Dixie are home now. He discovered she's not a mountain dog. We raised a pillow princess. :p He said if he'd thrown a sofa out on the property, she'd have been happy.

Oh, sheesh!

He got a great pix of her staring through the truck window at a herd of elk. Her ears are pointing so hard...

She's zonked out on the sofa right now, all four paws in the air, glad to be home.

I am so glad it is finally the weekend! It has been a long and slow week. But I am driving out to Ohio tomorrow to visit some good friends who I haven't seen in a quite a while! I'm so excited! And maybe I'll even have some downtime to do some writing! (Thanks for the inspiration, Belle!;))

What does everyone else have planned for the weekend? Something fun I hope!

How's about some snacks? Just relax, fix a plate, grab a drink, and go sit on the porch and gaze at the stars!

Hey Belle, my two dogs Sampson & Sweetie are pillow princes. They have their own room (the laundry room) with a doggy door to outside. Hubby put a baby bed mattress in there for them, complete with baby bed sheets. They're not spoiled, just very loved!

Hey Stephanie, yum yum I'm hungry. Churros are my fav. Too early for a 'rita, I'll take mine with coffee, please, and thank you! Hope you have fun in Ohio. I have busy weekend planned, too. Today, shopping for outfits to wear to daughter's graduation from nursing school, and outfits to wear to nephew's wedding. Tomorrow, going to grand-nephew's birthday party. Also cousin is in town from Colorado. Oh well, staying busy keeps me out of trouble.

yum yum

funnily enough I just told my husband on the weekend that is what I want on my tombstone. My life seems to revolve around growing/buying/cooking/eating food. Lucky me eh?
I wanted to tell you gals I didn't go and see hub's band to celebrate my birthday. That week turned sad. In my community, my dear friend's mum died from cancer, 18 and 20 yo boys died instantly when they ran their car into a tree and a couple who delayed having kids for careers first had a baby boy and he only lived for 20 hours. I cancelled my girls night out. I,everyone really, was in shock. Now I read about Cheryl's sister. :(

Life...it's precious and we keep on. This weekend past I went and visited my youngest son and gf in their new flash home. I'm so happy for them ( told hub I was over living in a shack in the bush. I wanna white house :)
He said , come up with $400 bucks a week . Hmmmmmmm  n/m)

I want to show you my pillow puppies, but I've run out of computer time. It's raining here. I wish that oil wasn't heading for the coast in the USA.

good luck amigas....bbl :D

Good morning Belle! I did get my bumper stickers, thank you! They are beautiful! Thanks for all your hard work on that. Forgot to reply. Been so busy trying to get my Richardson Wildflower review done I forgot. I wrote 2 really long reviews and each time the computer gobbled them up! Then we got sick, at least we weren't sick for the concert. I wrote another review on Word. Got my pics ready. Hopefully I can get them posted today without a hitch. So that is what my Sunday is gonna be. Hope everyone has a great day and week ahead! I feel very blessed today, to be a part of LaOnda. love love love Paul Newman. They weren't "classics" when I was a little girl, just movies. I loved the musicals. Loved Yul Brunner in "The King and I" etc etc etc.

I think I told you I'm a fan of Russell Crowe (why I even like his band). We saw "Robin Hood" the other day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I came out saying "I want a horse and a bow and arrow". Russ has a "Museum of Interesting Things" near here and the Robin Hood costume is there. Might go see it, breathe the Big Russ fumes :D

Jojo has voice problems, we have drummer problems. Hub is in 3 bands, the same drummer in 2 of them. He's up and left without telling us and they are solidly booked. It's a bit of a nightmare keeping the diary and gig guide in order and telling everyone where and when they have to be.
It's only rock and roll...it'll be alright on the night

Welcome to Friday, y'all. :D

Rita, I know you'll have a great time at the show. My friend might be there. (She saw them in Austin last November.)

I just got a new laptop. The downside is trying to configure it like I need it. I've got nothing else to do this weekend. hahaha

Hey y'all! What's shakin? I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far! I get to go to the dentist tomorrow. Woohoo! LOL. It's just for a cleaning, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I hope everyone that has LLB shows coming up has a great time! Summer is always a good concert season. I don't get to see the boys again until October when they're coming to Ohio.

Have a good one y'all!

Hi, gang. I'm opening up the kitchen for some grub. I feel like celebrating. One of the book trailers I made for a client hit the "most watched" on You Tube. I just hope it brings him lots of book sales (which was the whole point). :D

Anyway...

I tell you what, Nancy. Please send me some photos (5-6 maybe?) and I'll make a demo of what I'm talking about. That way others can add to the collection for one La Onda video.

How about that?

I should add to please include names of people in the photos (except of course for HJR).

I'm laying out a Bistro picnic by the lake in honor of the Boys playing at the ball park today. Can't wait to get the play-by-play ... not on the game, but on the concert. Wonder if they'll play Rockpango?

Picnic:

grilled hotdogs and hamburgers
potato salad
stuffed jalapenos
watermelon wedges
chocolate cupcakes (from the Texican Cookbook)

Ooh, picnic. I think I'll grab a cupcake. That goes well with chardonnay right? Hehe. So I was all excited and I thought LLB was playing in Marion Ohio on Sunday, October 17th. Then I checked the schedule and realized they are playing on Saturday, the 16th. That won't work for me. :( But hopefully I can still see them in Youngtown on the 15th. Nancy...I would love to make another DFW trip! I had such a great time when I was there, and I really like the area! Maybe next year when I have more vacation time.

So my younger brother got married this past weekend! I can't believe he's married! It was such a beautiful day! And such a wonderful ceremony and fun reception! And now that all that is over, I can relax and get back to a normal schedule. Hehe.

How's everyone else doing? Anything new and exciting?

Hiya, Steph. Glad to see you here!

I have another puppy story for you, except this time it isn't about Dixie. It's about our new dog, Codi Blue. She was a stray and we rescued her from the pound. She might be a year old now, and she's part Dalmatian. She HATES bugs.

The other night, DH and I are in the den. Codi was sleeping, but gets up and starts Grroof-ing, her nose pointed to the carpet, and her circling a spot.

I said, "She's found a bug."

DH gets up and looks. "It's not a bug. It's a scorpion!"

One squish of size 10 later, and scorpion is history. Codi rescued my bare feets from getting stung. Yay, Codi!! :D

Dinner:

Beef stroganoff
hot buttered noodles
spinach salad
Croissants

Cherry cheesecake

Hopefully I won't have to be guarding downed wires from Hurricane Earl this weekend... we are all on alert here (work for a power company in Connecticut) just in case we have major outages. My outage task is to guard downed wires to prevent the public from getting injured ... not a lot of fun in the middle of the night... but thank god for iPods and my LLB playlist :)

FRIDAY MORNING

I haven't fixed breakfast here in ages! :o So, I thought I'd put on the coffee and see how everyone's doing.

My computer is still at the shop, getting a new hard drive installed. I am so grateful I still have my old laptop and can get online. Otherwise...*shiver*

Once I'm back to normal, I've got to finish the graphics for Keep on Giving in the discography section. There's a spot of Spanish in Oye Mamacita that I can't figure out. I'm hoping Rita will drop by and lend a hand. She's good at that. I tried to transcribe the chatter in between songs and post it on the thread. I call those "Garza Gab".

Let's see...what else? Oh, I know. My dogs Dixie and Codi had an adventure. In our sun room, DH was cleaning off the loveseat and this little mouse jumped from behind the cushions. Like a flash, Codi chased it. Just as it almost reached the backdoor, Dixie came out of nowhere in front. DH said they shared a 'mouse snack'. Eewww.

And, I got a call Thursday night from Nancy at the show in Lubbock. I got to hear Oye Mamacita! The boys were smokin! (as usual.) Thanks, Nancy!

So, what you been up to?

Breakfast:

fresh nectarines

Yep. Time to turn the calendar over, hide the rest of the Halloween candy and think about...(dare I say it)...Christmas.

What's up with you guys? The Bistro's been awfully quiet.

Our fridge died last weekend. It was only 20+ years old. My DH has jury duty today. (He's really thrilled about that one.) My lifelong girlfriend is coming in from NM this week to spend some time with us. I've got a book signing Saturday that she's going to with me.

Let's see...what else? Oh, I know. Ant and I are talking about collaborating on another song. I've sent him the lyrics so he can come up with some killer blues. I love working with that guy. He's so creative! (And Cern, too!) The only problem is now I HAVE to finish writing the book it goes with.

For this forum, I got as many videos as I could find attached to the discography songs. Some of the videos aren't that good, but at least you can hear what the song sounds like. Some of them aren't on CDs, so they're really treasures!

Have a great Monday.

sliced pineapple
coffee, hot tea, juice

You had such a nice newsy post there Belle I just had to respond. I don't know if you remember meeting me in Texas at the Threadgills show last Nov for 1969 CD Release - I was the big girl from Florida. I really enjoyed hanging with you during the show. Hope to see ya next year in Texas again. I didn't make it to Texas this year.
The latest news for me is I did get to take an awesome LLB trip in October to Ohio with Cindy (cmedina) and Lisa (from tn). There were about 50 La Onda at the second Ohio show and we had a great time together. Racerpam and her DH were there as well as some Chicago folks. Also got to meet cheryl and her DH from erie, pa. Really a wonderful trip.
I hope you continue to produce quality work this year and that you have good health. Have a great holiday season !

I get to meet Nancy D (desertgirl7) and a few others at Granada at the end of November. That's gonna be fun.

I know the Boys get a kick out of seeing La Onda show after show all across the country. :D

Maybe we'll run into each other in 2011...at the tour bus...and be invited in for tortillas...(yeah, right, but I can dream).

New Year's Eve already here in Australia.

Menu
Champagne

j/k- not this year. I'm the designated driver (whooppee). My operation is in 10 days time, so I have to behave. I am getting together with my girl posse though, they wouldn't take no for an answer or I can't say no to them.

I had a beautiful Christmas surprise. My youngest son said "sorry it's just a card mum" But when I opened it a concert ticket fell out. He'd written - "wishing you a speedy recovery....'cause we're off to see the King of Scotland, you'll need you laughing muscles to be working". Billy Connolly in February:D
He and I were the last up on Christmas night playing guitar. I was blown away by how beautiful his singing voice is. He'd kept it a secret. His New Year's resolution is to busk, mine is to not play poker machines.
What's yours?

wish Los Lonely Boys had been the support act

U2 the night I saw them in Brisbane. I got to within blowing a kiss distance of the band, so lucky, a security guard asked "are you on your own?" and gave me a 3rd row ticket  gracias muchos grande gracias **faint**

So many stories, my kitchen is just being renovated by hub and son 2, hub is playing in 3 bands now, my dogs are thriving, it's rained for weeks so everything is green and lush....blessed be. And music like that of Los Lonely Boys exists in the world and I know a bunch of good-hearted souls such as you gals.

Dinner
smoked chicken
Yamba prawns
green salad
herb bread

lots and lotsa chocolate
champagne, bourbon or beer
soda water for me ....seriously our menu here in Oz tonight
good company
lotsa laughs and love

In order to celebrate 2011's one-week-old birthday, I decided to open the Bistro and cook up breakfast. I know. About time, huh?

How's everybody doing so far? How many resolutions are still alive and kicking? How'd your week go?

I've spent mine in the literary world, writing and editing. But I'm really excited about my newest story. It's off my usual Texas based novel. (I'm giving the last Black Wolf story a rest since I can't seem to make any headway with it.) This new one, "Lady Gwendolyn" is set in merry old England and has ladies in distress, knights, castles, but, alas, no dragons.

Proactive my dear. Love it. Sisters are doing it for themselves...ring that bell:)
I tried to get Bono and Luka Bloom to buy the house and land that was for sale next door to me. As my mother says "it doesn't hurt to ask, they can only say no"......... or completely ignore you in case you are a looney stalker fan :p

"Australians all let us rejoice....."

Do you have an equivalent to a camp oven? Cast iron lidded cooking pot. Get the fire down to coals and ash. Fill the pot with whole chicken & veges, bury it under the ash, wait half and hour, dig it up.....

MONDAY MORNING

Goodness, it's been awhile since I've been in here. I'll put the coffee on and fix breakfast for the going-to-work crowd.

Last week was "read an ebook" at Smashwords. I put 4 of my books up for free, including the two Miko and Lil books. I'm very pleased to report that we had 20 copies of Miko and Lil Onda Bus and 21 copies of Miko and Lil Onda Bus (Again) downloaded. I sure hope they enjoy our silly mouse story! (Not to mention make some folks curious about LLB.)

Have a great week, y'all! :D

Breakfast:

Welcome to Monday. :D

I've put one of my books up for free this week only. "Black Wolf at Rosebud". It's an ebook and can be read on Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or even on your own computer.

"Black Wolf at Rosebud" finds Matthew Black Wolf, keyboard player for his band, in a relationship that tests even the strongest love. He is constantly on the road for concerts and press junkets, surrounded by seductive women. But Lainie Two Kettles has only known her life on the Rosebud Reservation. Is his life too much for her? Will his cousin, Dan, steal her away?

In the meantime, here's breakfast:

Denver omelets
home fried potatoes
fresh canteloupe
hot tea, coffee, cocoa and juice of your choice.

Hola Musiclovers,
Blackwolf At Rosebud? Thought he must have made a trip downunder. Rosebud is a Victorian coastal town, my father-in-law lives there. Different Rosebud eh?

I'm awaiting the arrival of Rockpango from Amazon. I'm having my 50th birthday party on the Easter weekend. I'm looking forward to playing it for my friends. I'm getting ideas from the "listening party photos" thread. I think I'll get the girls playing "pin the guitar on Henry Garza" (just an excuse to put a big picture of Henry on the wall). I've got two old school friends coming along. They haven't met the "girl posse" I have now. Bit worried they are going to start telling "cass as a teenager" stories. **practices grinning and bearing it**

I'll leave you with this joke my friend just sent to me....

A husband and wife were sitting on the porch sharing a glass of wine, watching the stars appear.

"I love you." says the woman.

"Is that you or the wine talking? " asks the man.

"It's me," replies the woman...."talking to the wine."

boom tish!
