It was nothing short of "Heaven" when Los Lonely Boys won the 2005 Grammy for best pop vocal performance by a duo or group, and the brothers from San Angelo, Texas, are expected to turn in a stellar performance when they come to Denver on March 8 for the Latin American Educational Foundation Gala.
Some of the state's biggest names are behind the black-tie event. The honorary chairmen are Jeannie and Gov. Bill Ritter, Hope and U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, and Helen Thorpe and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper; working chairs include Metropolitan State College president Stephen Jordan; CH2M Hill CEO Ralph Peterson; Wells Fargo Bank regional president Tom Honig; auto dealer Mike Shaw and American Family Insurance VP Ranger Duran.
Others helping to make the event a success are such LAEF board members and benefactors as Mike Barela, Leo Beserra, Toti Cadavid, Chris Chavez, Luis Colon, Manny Fernandez, Manuel Martinez, Ron Montoya and Ric Padilla. The Salazar Family Foundation, whose president, Lola Salazar, is a member of the LAEF board, is the entertainment sponsor.
Tickets for the dinner-dance being held at the Adam's Mark Hotel can be purchased by calling 303-446-0541.
Welcome back
After putting its annual gala on hold for three years, Rocky Mountain chapter of The Arthritis Foundation has decided 2008 is the year to give it another go.
The April 17 Evening of Honors Gala will pay tribute to Gregg Moss of 9News and Lisa and Carl Williams. Carl Williams, a telecommunications magnate and former state legislator, has supported the foundation in significant ways since 1982. Both he and his wife have been board members and event volunteers; he established the Williams Award 17 years ago to honor the memory of his mother, who had rheumatoid arthritis.
Since being diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis five years ago, Moss has become a valued advocate for the cause.
The gala is being chaired by **** Saunders, Jeanne Portmann, Steve Edmonds, Steve Cohen, Lori Marks-Connors, Dr. Stuart Kassan and Jan Rice. Call 303-756-8622.
It's all good
Denver affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has added two new members to its board: John DellaSalle and Mary McBride. He is chief executive officer of the Tennison Group, an executive recruitment firm based in Cherry Creek, and of TG Staffing; she is executive vice president of CoBank's communications and energy banking group ... As the elves at Arapahoe House move into the final stages of stuffing 200-plus Christmas stockings that will be distributed to residential clients at the substance-abuse recovery center's various locations, they've discovered that a few more items are needed. Donations of board games (Scrabble, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit Junior and Scattergories are especially popular), crayons, basketballs, volleyballs and duffel bags would be particularly welcomed. Call 303-412-3643 ... Colorado Historical Society President Ed Nichols and preservationist Dana Crawford were the speakers when the new Barbara Sudler Hornby Terrace was dedicated at the Byers-Evans House Museum, 1310 Bannock St.
